Illness or Injury:
We hvae a nurse that is on staff that is available to help with any needs that arise during the camp week. Illness or Injury are reported directly to the nurse and they will be in contact with you if your camper needs to go to the doctor or if they need to picked up. It might be necessary for you camper to rest out of the cabin in case of illness. If this is necessary, we have rooms in our nurse's station that allow sick campers to sleep in. We also administer any medication based on the medical form that you provide at the beginning of the week and we will call you to let you know what medication has been administered and why it has been administered.
Bed-Wetting:
This is not unusual for our campers and our summer staff is trained to handle it in a way that does not embarrass the camper in any way. If the camper is know to be a bed-wetter they are usually encouraged to take a lower bunk within the cabin. The counselor, cleaning staff , and health officer will use discretion in the clean up.
Camper Special Needs:
If your camper has special needs that you need to make the counselor or health officer aware of, please contact us ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly to best help/accomodate your camper. Our office number is 330-674-7511.
Homesickness:
Many campers come to camp never having been away from home before and that leads to some homesickness at the beginning of the week. Our program directors create a program that allows the campers to have a smooth transition into camp life. In the case of homesickness, the counselor is encouraged to talk with the camper about activities that they are looking forward to and try to keep them busy through the day. The counselor also helps the camper set small goals to give them something to look forward to as the week progresses. As a general rule, if we need to call home about a homesick camper, you will get a call from the program director first. They will talk you through the situation and let you know how you can best encourage your camper to stay for the remainer of the week. Most of the time, if the camper makes it to Wednesday then they will stay until the end of the week. If the camper needs to go home, we will make plans with you through our office director.
Tornado Warning:
All staff are alerted, and campers are moved to one of our several storm shelters on property. Once the all-clear is given, the campers are moved from the storm shelters.
Thunderstorm Warning:
All staff are alerted and programming will move inside of buildings. All campers will remain inside until the all-clear is given and the storm blows over.
Pioneer Camp:
Since the campers in Pioneer Camp stay in covered wagons, if there is chance of storms in the ngith the campers will sleep in our activity center gym.
